Avoid these foodstuffs for Hormonal Balance:

Hi Friends
I know that, to be a healthy & fit individual you all keep working on your daily diet regularly.
But
Do you know that some foodstuff which you are having in your diet either consciously or unconsciously, are making the mess with your hormonal balance?
Yes
It’s true!
But before proceeding with those foodstuffs
Let’s first investigate the importance of Hormone & hormonal balance for our body.

Importance of Hormones & Hormonal Balance:

Our body is a composite structure of blood vessels, tissues, capillaries and various other vital organs that interact and coordinate with the brain, to ensure the proper & efficient functioning of the body. In the series of our body’s proper & efficient functioning, Hormones plays a significant role in controlling and coordinating various activities throughout the body.

Basically, hormones are the chemical substance, which is produced by different glands situated in various parts of our body and work as a chemical messenger & help to control almost every physiological process in our body viz.
  • Body’s Immune System;
  • Body’s Metabolism and appetite;
  • Body’s growth and development;
  • Body’s Reproductive System;
  • Female Menstrual Cycle;
  • Etc………………………………………..
From the above brief discussion in the context of hormones, we can conclude that our hormones control almost everything even at a most subtle level that our body does. Our brain’s ability to function also depends largely on a proper hormonal balance.
That’s why accurate hormonal balance is essential for our body’s proper & efficient functioning. Because hormonal imbalance can disturb various aspect of bodily functions & can cause several health issues; such as
  • Unusual weight gain or weight loss;
  • Acne, dry skin or skin rashes;
  • Changes in heart rate & Blood pressure;
  • Insomnia or difficulty in sleep;
  • Changes in Body’s temperature sensitivity;
  • Changes in blood sugar level;
  • & Many more…………………………………………………
Although our body is designed in such a way that it can maintain & correct it’s all bodily issues including hormonal balance by itself. But unfortunately, nowadays we are having some foodstuff regularly in our diet consciously or unconsciously, which is disturbing & interfering in the body’s natural processing including the hormonal balance.
Now question arises
What is that foodstuff & how they are making the mess to our hormonal balance?
Here is your answer
In terms of

Avoid these foodstuffs for Hormonal Balance:

1: Soy & Soy Products:

From the earlier years, Soy is being considered as a super-food with enormous health benefits. But nowadays 90-95% soy which we consume is Genetically Modified (which means they're engineered to withstand otherwise lethal doses of herbicide), which can obstruct & damage the working of our digestive tract.

Soy & Soy Products
But still, its true that Soy contains a variety of bioactive components, that’s why it becomes the primary ingredient in many foodstuffs such as dietary protein supplements, infant formula, and non-nutritive additives to improve the flavor of processed foods.
But besides all bioactive compound soy & soy foods also contain isoflavones which belong to a class of compounds generally known as phytoestrogens a plant-derived compound found in a wide variety of foods, but most notably it is found in soy.
These phytoestrogens compounds have estrogen-like structures and work as estrogen mimickers in our body and, considered as endocrine disruptors, especially the thyroid gland (which is responsible for the production and storage of hormones that control all of the body's systems) disruptor, and can cause adverse health effects.
It may also interfere with certain thyroid medications as well.
Being a notable source of phytoestrogens, if we eat large amounts of soy & soy products, it may result in a hormonal imbalance due to that extra estrogen, which can cause several health issues in both female & male. Such as:

*In females increase estrogen levels may increase the risk of breast cancer, cervical cancer, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and other hormone imbalance-related disorders.

* In males increase estrogen levels with respect to testosterone levels may give more feminine characteristics to men.
According to the study published in the National Centre for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) phytoestrogens may interfere with the organizational role of estrogen in the developing brain and reproductive system & women those who are pregnant, nursing, or attempting to become pregnant should use soy foods with caution and be aware that soy formula may not be the best option for babies.

If we want to consume soy without disturbing our bodily function, then we have to make sure that the soy which we are consuming should be organic & have been properly fermented.
Because after fermentation, the phytate (which can bind to certain dietary minerals and, slow their absorption) & "anti-nutrient" levels of soybeans are reduced, and their beneficial properties become available to our digestive system.

2: Artificial Sweeteners:

Today people are well acquainted with the negative consequences of consuming processed sugar & sugar-sweetened beverages on their weight, metabolism and, overall health condition; therefore, many health conscious people have turned to non-caloric, high-intensity, artificial sweeteners like aspartame, sucralose, and saccharin as a way to reduce the risk of these consequences.
Artificial Sweetener
Artificial Sweetener
There is no doubt that replacing caloric processed sugar with non-caloric artificial sweeteners reduces the energy density of our foods and beverages.
But these Artificial sweeteners can imbalance our hormones as well via an impaired metabolism, which can cause the endocrine glands to dysfunction &, can result in an abnormal secretion of hormones.
Because, although artificial sweeteners are low in calories, the pancreas responds to them as if they were natural sugars by producing insulin
However, in the absence of any glucose to metabolize, the insulin is retained by the body itself. This causes a condition known as hyperinsulinism & people with persistent state of hyperinsulinism can lose strength and gain weight as well.
According to the study published in a health journal, artificial sweeteners have been found to cause glucose intolerance and induce metabolic syndrome and are also associated with higher body weight gain.
Some studies have also suggested that artificial sweeteners could also have a negative effect on our gut microbes as well and thus lead to a higher risk of diabetes cause kidney injury, cancer, and endocrine disorders.

Conclusion:

Hormones & hormonal balance plays a very significant role for our body &, shows a very profound effect on our physical, mental and emotional health.
Although, our endocrine glands are able to produce the exact amount of each hormone needed for our various bodily functions. But nowadays, hormonal imbalances have become increasingly common because of today's fast-paced modern lifestyle.
But we are very fortunate because a nutritious & healthy diet (by avoiding certain foodstuff as we discussed as well) and other healthy lifestyle behaviors can dramatically improve our hormonal health and can make us feel and perform at our best.
